No, she was not as liberal as I would have liked, BUT I UNDERSTAND THAT.

I also understand that she NEVER tried to undermine DEMOCRATIC VALUES by sucking up to Fox News or Bush, and never ONCE did she suggest, or even IMPLY that the GOP was right on certain issues, as Ford has done.

As Memphis Blue has suggested, all Ford hasn't done yet is THE QUISLING SHOW WITH HAROLD AND ZELL on Fox News.

YET.

And that's what we're talking about...Steve Steffenshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08104688163653632284noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9102867.post-1145320730397227682006-04-17T19:38:00.000-05:002006-04-17T19:38:00.000-05:00And by the way. In the best of all worlds, Feingold's strong stand would redefine what's "moderate" and make clear that those challenging the legality of the wiretapping are neither extreme nor soft on terrorism. That would demand coordination, trust and, yes, calculation involving both the vote-counting politicians and the guardians of principle among the activists. Republicans have mastered this art. Democrats haven't.

Turning a minority into a majority requires both passion and discipline. Bringing the two together requires effective leadership. Does anybody out there know how to play this game?"

Defining political culture is not done through a long term strategy of triangulation. Triangulation is only a short term tactic.(You really need a crazy motherf'er like Perot to help triangulate.) Changing political culture should be seen more as a tug of war. A party must organize it's various groups to take part in a long term tug of war strategy. The flag hanging between the two teams is where the middle is. Your team has to pull the rope (political spectrum) your direction. That therefore moves the political spectrum to the left or right. If your overall strategy is to have half your team move towards the other team's direction, then the middle shifts towards the other team as well. The republicans get this, so what the hell is our problem?

For too long many leaders in the party stop pulling or in some cases candidates, like Ford, actually start throwing marbles under our feet. I and buddy of mine talk about this all the time. He likes to say the Democratic party believes in magic. It doesn't want to do all that hard work pulling and somehow thinks the other team will just fall down on their own. Even worse, many in the Party think (and hope) some Hercules character will just drop from the sky and the pull the rope by himself, saving us all.

Democrats like to say we live in a facts based world, but we don't. We still believe that magic will win elections. At this point, I'd be happy if assholes would stop dropping marbles.polar donkeyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15593284213899478126noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9102867.post-1145300663171995582006-04-17T14:04:00.000-05:002006-04-17T14:04:00.000-05:00The problem is, of course, that due to our screwed...The problem is, of course, that due to our screwed-up healthcare system, even if you have a job AND insurance, if you develop a chronic illness, you can still incur medical debts that can bankrupt you.

Now, of course, thanks to Ford's vote, you can't even file for bankruptcy.

Oh well, here's a positive for Ford, at least he hasn't sponsored legislation to bring back debtor's prisons!

YET.Steve Steffenshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08104688163653632284noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9102867.post-1145295978650030442006-04-17T12:46:00.000-05:002006-04-17T12:46:00.000-05:00To bad Ford can't run against many Bush policies s...To bad Ford can't run against many Bush policies since he rolled over and supported them. I'm glad that person in Collierville sees Ford as such a gentleman. I hope she doesn't get sick, divorced, or lose her job. That increases her chances of being screwed by Ford's vote for the bankruptcy bill. Everyone knows 90% of people that declare bankruptcy fall into one or more of those categories. But Ford apparently was unaware or didn't give two shits about them.polar donkeyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15593284213899478126noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9102867.post-1145289698487823542006-04-17T11:01:00.000-05:002006-04-17T11:01:00.000-05:00I thought you guys might like to read this article...I thought you guys might like to read this article.
