Who's your choice for Mayor in 2015?

WTF?? WHO invited Bill Gibbons to Kennedy Day?

I heard a rumor that Bill Gibbons, the REPUBLICAN Shelby County District Attorney General, was coming to Kennedy Day on May 22, which is the annual SCDP fundraiser.

Not believing this could be true, I went to the AG's campaign website, which linked to his schedule. And there it was, listed on his campaign schedule for May 22!!!

Given that this is a year where Democrats have a chance to actually WIN all those races that have eluded us, and where we have a strong candidate in Gail Mathes, why the hell would Bill Gibbons be allowed in the building?

This is a PARTISAN election, folks, and the SCDP has candidates of our own that we can elect this year. We need the chairman of the party (and you know who you are, Matt) to publicly inform Mr. Gibbons that he is NOT WELCOME at this event, so he cannot campaign for Democratic votes. We have OUR OWN CANDIDATE, thank you very much, and this event is to raise money to BEAT his sorry, incompetent ass and everyone else running under the GOP banner, and we're using this event to remind everyone how badly we're going to beat them.

Now, next year, when the NON-PARTISAN city elections take place, we can invite whoever the hell we want. This year, however, with the County offices thisclose to being in Democratic hands, the last damned thing we need is to have Bill Gibbons show up. He needs to be told, politely but FIRMLY, that he is not welcome.

More and more, I'm getting an incompetence feeling from the SCDP.

At this point I don't believe it is incompetence anymore. It is about a group of people in power, and it doesn't matter if they are republican or democrat, that want to keep control. Why don't we ask who invited Gibbons? When shall people realize that the democratic party does not exist to serve the sole interests of AC Wharton in the county and Sidney Chism(Herenton) in the city, both of which collaborate with Republican elites who view their party the same way. As a tool to maintain the status quo.

Oh yeah, I will be supporting Whillingham. AC "I don't have any public positions or any idea how to get the county out of debt" Wharton doesn't deserve support just because he smiles, speaks nicely to people, and has the benefit of standing next Herenton.

I've been look around at the political scene in other cities, and I have to say without hesitation that this is one of the most poltically depressing places anywhere in America outside of DC. The combination of apathetic incompetence and chummy corruption is more worthy of Hazzard County than Shelby County.

Gail Mathes was promised FULL support for her run as DA by Matt Kuhn, as well as David Upton. By allowing the republican DA to come to the dinner, he is being given credibility that is debilitating to her. It is no wonder that this party has difficulty convincing qualified candidates to run. As for the republicans, they seem to remain loyal, even to Bush, to the end. Gibbons is nothing more than a political hack who is placing himself in a position to run for governor in four years.

Be it incompetence or nefarious in nature, either way, they have to be gotten rid of.

I for one am both nefarious and incompetent.
