"The first truth is that the liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism — ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. ”

The CITY of Louisiana
Thanks to PESKYFLY for having this at his site. Stop what you're doing and go read this Olbermann piece now, it's classic.
For a sports nerd, Olbermann has consistently shown an intelligent, politically astute side that is often as incisive as it is biting. He, like many, many other Americans over the past week, has connected the dots between tax cuts for the richest among us, a party and ideology dedicated to the propositions that God has told them to let anyone not of their income and class or racial or party level to "eat cake" (or, in the current case, drink sewage-filled water) and who hate the government so much that they feel entitled to drain it down Grover Norquist's bath tub. The President is right in saying that the response of the government has been unacceptable. Too bad he can't bring himself to accept responsibility for the policies of his government which helped to create the disaster that is New Orleans and the Gulf Coast.
