First, from the SCDP, comes an event this coming Thursday Night at Pearl's Oyster House on South Main:

Then, Drinking Liberally Memphis announces their Guest Speaker for next week's meeting, to be held on TUESDAY, JUNE 18 instead of Thursday, at Frida's on Madison (upstairs):
We are moving next weeks' DL to TUESDAY NIGHT, JUNE 18 at 7 PM as we have the new Director of Planned Parenthood's Greater Memphis Region, Ashley Coffield, coming to speak to Drinking Liberally Memphis!
This will be your chance to meet her and hear what is happening at PPGMR, our thanks to PPGMR's (and DL regular member) Joan Carr for making these arrangements. So come to DL on TUESDAY, JUNE 18 at Frida's at 7 PM!
Looks like a busy few days for us all!

Drinking Liberally moves to Frida's this week!

From our friends at DL:

After a year's run at Dublin House, we decided to find a smoke-free venue, and found Frida's Mexican Restaurante at 1718 Madison, where we will begin meeting this week at 7:30 P.M. in the upstairs area; ask the host or hostess to show you where the stairs are! We did not take this move lightly, and wish Dublin House well. However, it was important to our members to find a smoke-free venue. Please come and join us this Thursday evening at 7:30 P.M.!!!!

Um, he's REALLY good.

AC Wharton addressed tonight's gathering of Drinking Liberally at RP Billiards, and spent well over an hour with us, being very candid and talking at length about his plans for the city.

I wanted substance, I got substance. He talked for half that time about education, and he was very clear that he is will to do what it takes to make education a focus. I had never spent that much time with him in a setting, and he is mesmerizing.

He knocked it out of the park, and showed why he is leading.

I have learned that TNDP Chair candidate Chip Forrester will be coming to Drinking Liberally TONIGHT.   Come out and meet him and ask him about his plans for dragging the TNDP out of the depths in which it now finds itself, and how we can work with them (and THEM WITH US) to achieve this.

To remind you...

Ladies & Gentlemen, after a short absence, we are proud to announce the Memphis return of

DRINKING LIBERALLY!!!!!

We will begin again on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 15 at 7 PM with a DEBATE WATCH PARTY at our new home, the recently-renovated RP Billiards at 525 South Highland, on the Strip!

We will have a room with couches and a large TV, along with tables, food and Happy Hour prices from 7-10 PM this week, in following weeks we will run EVERY Wednesday from 7-9 PM. Please tell your friends and come join us this coming Wednesday, and EVERY Wednesday thereafter for the foreseeable future.

In addition to the renovated building, the menu is being upgraded; in addition to the great burgers you've come to know there and at the original RP Tracks around the corner, they have terrific pizzas and newer items, like blackened tuna. You will have a GREAT time!

Many thanks to David Holt for spearheading this project, as well as Rebecca Jackson, Rick Maynard, and Meg Seigenthaler for assisting in the reformation of DL.

Everything, nothing and something all at once

I am not at all sure how coherent this will be, but here goes.

I have had a Michael Vick/dogfighting post in my head for a few days now, but I just can't put it together right now. Maybe by the weekend, I hope.

Don't faint, but Wendi Thomas has written what may be her best column ever on the subject of healthcare and the myth of merit and the self-made man. Even better, Auto has followed it up with a terrific complementary (and complimentary, too) piece that you should read as well.

I wound up the night at DL, where we were graced by our groovy and sexy dear friends from the Northwest of Tennessee, Newscoma and Squirrel Queen. They need to come back and stay longer, they can't come so close to Central BBQ and NOT go there. (note to Craig, Roger and Steve - where the hell did your website for Central BBQ go???)

Oh, and Liz? Welcome home babe, you were missed.

More later on this non-NBC station!
