It's time to slay the DLC monster...

Fellow District 93 blogger Frank Burhart at Polar Donkey cracks hard on Hillary Clinton for taking the point for the DLC in his latest post.

He quotes from LA Times' correspondent Ron Brownstein's article on the appearance of the One Who Would Be President at the DLC love fest, then smartly follows up with choice quotes from David Sirota, such as this:

"The fact is, the Democratic Party has to make a choice: Is it going to continue to follow the DLC, be a wholly owned subsidiary of corporate America, and lose elections for the infinite future," he wrote in an e-mail. "Or is it going to go back to its roots of really representing the middle class and standing up for ordinary people's economic rights?"

This is worth your time to read...

Gee, you're no fun!

Someone we both know (your boss) suggested to me earlier today that Hillary is the national version of Junior, and I agree with him.

Unless she's willing to ride herd on Al From and Will Marshall, this looks like a potential problem for those of us who want a progressive.

It seems to me like there are progressives who are willing to look the other way for HRC, and I don't understand it.

The whole DLC idea worked only because of the charisma of Bill Clinton. Most Democrats still don't understand that he was a once-in-a-lifetime person and no one else can repeat his success. Certainly not the hard-on-the-ears Hillary, who is brittle and false.

Democrats need to accept being the minority party for a generation (as in the Republicans during the Sixties and Seventies) and watershed. Come up with core principles for the 21st century, instead of defining themselves against Republicans.

Mike,

i don't necessarily want to be the minority party for a GENERATION, but you hit it on the head. These DLCers are trying to govern when they have NO power, and you can't triangulate unless you control something, and in Washington, we control NOTHING.

We have to learn to be an opposition party as well.

By the way, I never have thanked you for your comments at Half-Bakered; that got me off my ass and writing again, just in time for the Convention. I appreciate it.

I don't think I'd go that far. Clinton listens better--- she's made a lot of New York doubters into supporters. She didn't just suss NYC. But I know where he's coming from.

I just want to see how all of this plays out.

The only reason Republicans say things like "Democrats need to accept being the minority party for a generation" is that they hope it will discourage us. If you look around on liberal blogs, you'll see the troll and Republican defender population increasing. This is because they are in BIG trouble. They insist on defending treason and most regular Americans, regardless of their party affiliation, are NOT okay with treason.

Steve, if I had anything to do with getting you back to blogging, it's me who is grateful. Sorry if I seem to be mining your blog for material lately, but you're Johnny-on-the-spot with local Democrats.

PosterChild42, I am not a Republican. I am a registered Libertarian of a conservative bent. The difference may be too fine for some eyes, but it's very real. And important. But if you believe I want to see the Democrats reduced to minor party status, well... yeah. ;-)
