OK, I'm an old hack. You didn't know this?

I have been doing politics in Shelby County since 1978, all of it Democratic. So, when there's a Unity Breakfast and everyone is being nice instead of pimp-slapping each other, I get excited.

I have been accused of going back on everything I have written on Ford for the past 2 years for my post yesterday about where he is and where he needs to go. One of the frustrations I have about Harold is that I WANT to support him, but he inevitably does something to piss me off. He gave a great speech, yesterday, and I got excited again.

So, sue me.

However, Frank Burhart at Polar Donkey kept his wits about him, and has a terrific post about our congressman's words, and then his deeds, as well as those who have contributed to his campaign. I know Jr's got a juggling act, but from this post, I have a bad feeling about which balls he will drop. Great work, Frank.

I'm sorry. I just really think that Harold needs to be put out to pasture for at least a couple years.

Maybe permanently.

It'll be a cold day in hell before I ever vote for that bastard.

Bastard?

Maybe not. self-centered prig with the vision of a deaf bat?

Yeah.

I'll be posting a short note on yesterday's event later today.

Hello Leftwing Cracker readers. I have a question and I'd like to hear what people think. What is "unity"? It is an easy word to say but nobody defines what it means. Unfortunately, it too often means falling in line behind people you may not agree with and who may not represent your interests. Most importantly, candidates don't have to listen to their constituents. The second part of the "unity" question is how do you get it? I see the breakfast we had as "manufactured unity". Everybody shows up, plays nice, and puts on a good public face. These things are necessary but it doesn't address what really separates us. I believe in a transparent party structure with no backroom deals(or at least minimal). I believe in raucous primaries where ideas get debated and decided in fair elections in a non-rigged system. People need to have faith that their ideas will be heard and given a chance. Save the dirty tricks and mudslinging for the general election. So once again everybody, what is UNITY and how do we get it? If we can figure that out, the Shelby County Democratic Party may start heading in the right direction.

I am not a big fan of Congressman Ford but does he have to be a "bastard?"

That wasn't Steve's comment, it was mine. Point taken, and I will amend my comment:

It will be a cold day in hell before I ever vote for the Dishonorable Congressman.

Better?

BCD, I'll bet I know who you are, and if it is, you're the guy who got me into all this in 1978!

Regarding the Republicans in the Senate race, did you know Corker already has almost $3 million in the bank? that's almost 5 times as much as Hilleary & Bryant combined, if the CA is right...
