A Shameless Plug!

This Saturday night, at that wonderful dive known to one and all as THE BUCCANEER, our friend the Pesky Fly slips into his other persona (or ONE of them, anyway) as Papa Top, leading Memphis' (hell, the SOUTH's) best purveyors of the Bakersfield Sound.

He even has an opening act, more about that here.

10 PM's a little old for Grandpa here, but I am going to do my damndest to go see this terrific band, and you should too, it will be a great break from the family before Xmas Eve and Xmas.

Remember, always keep the X in Xmas!

Oh my gosh, look out "Rachel in the City" for the Cracker! Although I like her pictures of the Popa Tops better.

I may see you there as I have been wanting to check out this band. I also like to find out how The buccanner is now a popular place when it used to be a place for hard core midtown alkies of my generation.

Here is another entertainment tip perhaps more suitable for LWC readership :) The Memphis Symphony is featuring romatic waltzes of Strauss, Mozart and Rossini at the Cannon Center at 8PM on Dec 31st.
Live demonstrations of the Waltz will be presented before the concert and with instructions after the concert. Tickets are $60. Call MSO at 537-2525

Thanks for the reminder. I try to always keep the X in Xmas. Here's a little excerpt into why from wikipedia on the meaning of Xmas:

The word "Christ" and its compounds, including "Christmas", have been abbreviated for at least the past 1,000 years, long before the modern "Xmas" was commonly used. "Christ" was often written as "XP" or "Xt"; there are references in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle as far back as 1021 AD. This X and P arose as the uppercase forms of the Greek letters χ and ρ), used in ancient abbreviations for Χριστος (Greek for "Christ") (see Labarum), and are still widely seen in many Eastern Orthodox icons depicting Jesus Christ.
