I just don't have any words for this....

It appears that future Hall of Famer Steve McNair, in my opinion the best quarterback to play for any football team in Tennessee, pro or college, was murdered in his condo in downtown Nashville along with an unidentified woman. The details are still sketchy, and it may be a while before we know the details, but this is very sad and very tragic.

He had more guts than any player I've ever seen, and he was a leader in Nashville on AND off the field, very involved in his community. He fought being underrated from the time he starred at Alcorn State, where he SHOULD have won the Heisman Trophy. He was underrated as a pro, but but the Oilers (and then Titans) on his back, and he carried them to within a yard of the Lombardi Trophy.

I agree with GoldnI; The Titans should immediately retire #9, as there will never be another. His family and friend are in my thoughts and prayers, and I hope they are in yours as well. Rest in Peace, Steve, you were the best.

It's going to be a very quiet 4th tonight at my house.

That's fucked. I don't know the circumstances and it doesn't matter. It's fucked, any way you slice.

Steve McNair was a fine man. This is a genuine tragedy.

Steve rocked as a QB. He will be missed greatly.

Its very disappointing because of his kids but come on. Im sick of these prominent married men cheating on their wives. By the way these women who are married to these prominent men should learn a lesson from Frank Wychecks wife. She hired a private investigator to babysit their kids and clean their house when she was away.

C'mon Turnbow...

How dumb and immoral can the single woman be too... hell she was 20 years old and wouldn't you think should could have googled the name "Steve McNair" and not only discovered his WIFE's name but the children names too!

It appears it still takes two to create the immortal acts of adultery and fornication!!! Turnbow, the Christian faith defines sex before marriage as fornication They were both equally wrong!!!

Anon at 7:30: we do not know the full circumstances of the case and the relationship between McNair and this young woman. To then uncategorically say that both of them were "wrong" does them an injustice and ought, if at all possible, to be avoided even after the facts come out. Incidentally, "the Christian faith," as you express it, has not exactly had the most spotless record as far as sexual issues are concerned. I say this as a seminary graduate and a former pastor, not as some faith-hater or someone who doesn't understand the basics of our common tradition. We have been obsessed with sex since Augustine and that preoccupation--as opposed to grieving over the deaths here and having some Christian compassion about the McNair family--has led to more mischief and caused non-Christians such as the Cracker to categorize us as needing to come to our senses and abandon our tradition. I might invite you--as a Recovering Baptist, I use "invite" in that sense--to re-read Luke 18:9-14 and ask yourself who the hero of that story happens to be. Perhaps we might also examine the story in John's Gospel about women or men caught in adultery and how Jesus deals with that subject in that context.

It's very easy to point fingers and condemn. Marriages have lots of ups and downs and there are constant temptations for male and even female celebrities. I choose to remember McNair's postives, as generally a good family man and mentor for kids. As a Memphian and confirmed Titan hater, I never rooted for him until he went to the Ravens but still admired him.
