"The first truth is that the liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism — ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. ”

KO spells it out for Obama on FISA, with a SURPRISE
From MSNBC via The Fix. It's eleven minutes, but it's worth every second!
The Democrats' dilemma since at least forty-four years ago today (7-2-64): how do they win both their primaries and the general election, two very separate sorts of electoral processes? Be honest folks: many people tried to be oh so pure eight years ago just as I did in 1980 when I did not vote for either major party candidate. My vote helped to give President Reagan space through which to cliam a "mandate" and elbow room to pass his economic tax cuts, sending the deficit and debt skyrocketing for what turned out to be twelve years. The purists of 2000--for St.Ralph the Narcissist--cost Al Gore both Florida and New Hampshire and gave the country eight years from what we will spend decades trying to fix if we are lucky and make reasonably intelligent electoral choices. Even the St. admits it when he tallies up the math percentages of who among his Florida vote would have voted for whom. If the left wants to maintain its absolute, unsullied purity, vote for either St. Nader the Narcissist or Cynthia "I didn't assualt a Capitol Hill Policeman" McKinney for the Green Party. If you want to win and have a President Obama stopping the abuses of FISA law under the current occupant, however, swallow your pride, hold your tongues and vote for a less than perfect, but better than McCain the sellout Barack Obama.
