A new blogger with good reasoning

EarthWindFire82 is a new local blogger, blogging at MyFoxMemphis.com, and her latest post is stirring some controversy.

Her premise is simple: don't just say you're running AGAINST Mayor Herenton, tell us what you are FOR, and how you intend to do it. Go check it out!

"I was annoyed last year when the campaign to impeach Mayor Herenton was buzzing. Not because they were trying to impeach him, but because that was negative energy. Those who signed that petition could have simply used that energy and time to try to find a candidate to run in the next election."

Is this a joke? Negative energy. Really N-E-G-A-T-I-V-E E-N-E-R-G-Y.

Yes, I felt it was indeed negative energy. The group behind those petitions were outright rude to you if you didn't share their perspectives, and in the end they didn't succeed. To this day, the reason why they didn't succeed more than likely had to do with their behavior than the point they were trying to make. Now, the issue is still the same, they don't want Herenton in office, but that group hasn't gotten behind a better qualified candidate.

Not only that Thaddeus, who headed up the recall effort, has done more flip-flops on Herenton than a Jesse White Tumbler...

If your point was only and specifically what LWC said it was, then you have a good point. Only when the candidates spell out what they plan to do FOR the City can we make an informed judgment about which one we pick to replace Herenton.

In the wake of the recall failure, Thaddeus made a lot of remarks about the petitioners being a large pool of dissatisfied Memphians who would oppose Herenton in this election.

But have you noticed? NOT ONE SINGLE WORD about the recall effort in recent months? It's like he's forgotten, or wants us to forget. Very odd.

She's pretty much correct in her point about standing for something. I would disagree with her on one point though. I loved listening to the Bob Dornan GOPers in the 90's and the 9/11 conspiracy Dems of today insult and bully people who disagree with them. People like them and the Thaddeus's on the local level are what makes politics entertaining.

Let's just agree to disagree. In a year, when Herenton is in his 5th term and we find out about more corruption and hidden bombs in the city budget, we can revisit this topic about negative energy from the good ole days of the 2006 recall drive.
