Luther Ingram 1937-2007

Luther Ingram, best known for his 1973 hit IF LOVING YOU IS WRONG I DON'T WANT TO BE RIGHT, has died at the age of 69 at a hospital in Belleville, IL. The song, which was covered by Millie Jackson and Barbara Mandrell, went to #1 on Billboard's R&B charts, and was one of my favorite songs ever released by Stax.

Ingram also co-wrote the Staples Singers megahit RESPECT YOURSELF with Sir Mack Rice in 1971 and was a stalwart at Stax until it went into bankruptcy in 1975.

That song is one of those that, it doesn't matter who you are or what you do, feel all groovy, sexy.
I love that. Ingram was so good.
He'll be missed, no doubt.
