Sadly, we now have confirmation from the hospital and her family..

Of the passing of Representative Stephanie Tubbs-Jones (D-OH-11) this evening at Huron Hospital in Cleveland. Here is the statement from the family and the hospital:

Tubbs Jones Family, Huron Hospital and Cleveland Clinic
August 20, 2008 - 6:40 p.m.

"Throughout the course of the day and into this evening,
Congresswoman Tubbs Jones' medical condition declined. Medical doctors and neurosurgeons from Huron Hospital and Cleveland Clinic sadly report that at 6:12 p.m. Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones died.

She dedicated her life in public service to helping others and will continue to do so through organ donations.

Please keep her family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time."

She was a tireless fighter for her district and the progressive causes in which she believed. She fervently supported Senator Clinton in the primaries, but jumped on board the Obama campaign once his nomination was unassailable. This is a loss for her family, her constituents, her colleagues, and all who believe in progressive ideals, and we join in mourning her loss.

Some of you will remember, of course, that she supported our Congressman's primary opponent each of the last two primaries. Well, they were sorority sisters, and that sort of thing happens; I don't really think that's important right now.

Please remember her for the fighter she was for causes we all believe in.

R.I.P. Stephanie Tubbs-Jones
