Oh, and did we forget to mention he's a ----------

WOW. TPM ElectionCentral got a copy of one of Corky's radio ads where, every time Ford's name is mention, TOM-TOM DRUMS are played. When Corker's name is mentioned, strings come up, as if to say, he's one of US, not one of THEM.

Goopers, why don't you just take out an ad and say, Remember, Harold Ford's a N-----, so don't vote for him? That would be more honest. This seems to be in the HOW LOW CAN THEY GO category, this is horrible.

Click on the link above to read the story and hear the ad.

I just saw ABC Evening News and they did a big segment on the white girl "call me" ad. This combined with this jungle drum radio ad could backfire to a small degree. The radio ad is unbelievable. What is this "Birth of Nation" bullshit? I think this ad will actually have a bigger effect nationally than here in Tennessee. All those suburban voters who tell themselves they aren't racist get to see exactly what the republican party is. The the DNC was smart it would make an ad piecing together parts of these ads and George Allen's macacca statement juxapositioned with images of Katrina. Then ask "Is there any doubt know why the people of New Orleans were abandoned?" Turn the vileness of the Republican party onto itself and make the South an isolated, political pariah it deserves to be. (The republican party is going to almost be wiped out in the Northeast and will be greatly weakened in the mid West and West. The GOP is becoming more and more a regional party.)

I don't think the limited backlash in Tennessee will help Jr much. To much of the electorate are crackers who just will not vote for a black guy. The Tennessee of today is not more racially color blind than North Carolina was 15 years ago when Harvey Gantt ran against Jesse Helms.

But I'm still not crying tears for Jr. You went and kissed these crackers' asses for more than year. Plus you sold out your constitutents' interests and still these republicans are paint you as a liberal and racial demonize you. Jr should have just been a liberal because he got the same treatment anyway.

Switch back and forth from this candidate ro that candidate or neutrality as you will. But don't blame non-existent JUNGLE DRUMS!!

I don't know if it's me or Blogger, but I didn't mean to repeat myself. But listen, folks, I'm getting furious at being lectured to by the likes of Mike Barnicle, a plagiarist of the Jayson Blair school, about how we're all unredeemed racists down here if we don't elect Harold.

Let's elect him or Corker on the merits of this race — not according to capital-S spin of this wildly exaggerated sort. I mean, c'mon!

Well, I don't think this has been decided on the merits at any point, just on the last sound bite.

Notice that all this started when Ford was up 4-5 points in some polls, and now it's back to the deadheat scenario.

If it were on the merits, I'd write in Jim Sasser, for heaven's sakes.

While they may not be jungle drums, there are drums under Ford and WEZI-style "beautiful music" when they mention Corker.

Just enough to remind you who the white guy is, I think...

You, PD, and Josh Marshall are hearing things I don't hear. Sure, the mood of the music alternates between them. One is a Democrat and the other is a Republican. Isn't that reason enough? Good grief.

Not racist Tennesseans, racist southern conservatives.
We ned to start calling a spade a spade Dems.
These southern conservatives are the real culprit. They are the base of the GOP and they are a bunch of racist haters. So I have nothing against southern people but I do believe southern cons are a no good bunch of people who thrive in these kinds of ads.

Now we learn from the Corker campaign (via the reanimated Hollihan blog) that the same "jungle drums" (aka "tom-toms" played under an image of CORKER (!) in one of the GOP guy's own commercials. http://www.bobcorkerforsenate.com/video.tb1.aspx?video=commercial21

While we're talking about racist codespeak, let's not forget Harold Ford Sr.'s speech at the Summer Ave. rally last week which contained this little gem, in reference to Jake and his opponent, Steve Cohen:

His opposition won’t even come to the community and ask for their votes.

THE COMMUNITY? Wonder which community he meant? The community at large or any particular part of the community? Waddya think?

This is why Sr. makes me sick. I vividly remember the night Herenton first got elected, and Sr. on tv down at the Election Commission grandstanding about the absentee vote count and calling all the white people in East Memphis white devils. What a statesman.

He needs to go back to Florida and leave Memphis the hell alone.
