Former County Commissioner Vasco Smith has passed away, it was announced moments ago at a County Commission meeting. Smith, who served 21 years on the Commission, was a giant in the civil rights movement, along with his wife, longtime School Board commissioner Maxine Smith.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Smith family and the legion of friends and admirers of this civil rights warrior.
