OK, we've got a moratorium on politics here at least until Wednesday

Because we here have other things on our mind.  First, go to the CA website and see the picture and the caption: The FIRST #1 SEED TO FALL.....  UCLA.

Damn skippy.  As you may have noticed, especially if you are a Memphian, the Memphis Tigers exorcised 35 years of demons against the sons of Westwood, dominating UCLA, 78-63 in the first National Semifinal.  They will face the Kansas Jayhawks, who blew out to a 28-point lead in the first half, only to see North Carolina pulling within four points in the second half, only to see the Tar Heels run out of gas and lose.

What I enjoyed was watching the guys afterward and noticing that, while they were happy, they were not overjoyed, because they knew that the job is not yet finished.  39-1 must be achieved.

But until Monday at 8:17 P.M., let me offer the comments of the gentleman who is the person after whom this blog was named, and who was a freshman at MSU when they lost to the Bruins in 1973:  FUCK BILL WALTON.

GO TIGERS, ONE MORE TO GO.

Most Esteemed Cracker:

You haven't been watching KU basketball for the last two decades, my friend. UNC didn't run out of gas. After the under 5:00 timeout, they did everything wrong. They went for threes that they hadn't been making, they didn't shut down the KU inside game, and most of all - KU didn't have the coaching disadvantage that UNC had, to wit...

What you witnessed was a boilerplate Roy Williams game in prime time. He has a losing record when it comes to xxxxx-finals in the NCAAs (quarterfinals, semifinals, finals). He did exactly what he did on behalf of UNC as he had at KU. Exact same game plan. Self had to know, since it's the same script that Williams held to in losses to Arizona, Syracuse, Maryland, Duke... He made irrational substitutions, went for the trapping defense, and refused to call time-outs as KU started to roll on his boys.

It wasn't a lack of energy on UNC's part: They plain got beat on rebounds, they got beat on the paint, KU went 10 players deep too, and their vaunted three-point game was held neutral by the hot hands of KU (Rush, Collins, Robinson). As UNC went to the trap, KU had to know that they were going to win. History repeats.

That's why I wasn't terribly worried as UNC pulled to within 5 - because Williams is beyond a shit game manager when he's playing from behind. UNC has to win by 30 if they're going to win at all.

How long will it be for some of these young men 'til it's back to the hood, buy a 40, roll a blunt and sling some rocks!? It's sad to say but it probably won't be that long. When we had a senoir that couldn't keep his lips off of a blunt during the season, now that their (career) is over, what is left for these young men? Most of them have poor communication skills so good jobs will be hard to aguire. I feel sorry for them. A college education was handed to them which included them not having to pay for the books and what did it get them? Nothing.
